Genentech-Roche Merger Faces Deadline: The $2.1-billion merger of Genentech Inc. and Roche Holding Ltd. of Switzerland will take effect today unless the Federal Trade Commission intervenes before a 9 p.m. deadline. The Swiss pharmaceutical giant is seeking 60% of the stock of the South San Francisco-based biotech firm. The FTC, which conducted an antitrust review, indicated concern when it asked for additional information about the deal in March, a Genentech spokesman said.
