Light Punishment: Japan’s Ministry of Finance slapped the wrists of four brokerages for their involvement in a stock manipulation case. They must suspend operations at certain branches for one or two days. Affected are Daiwa Securities Co., National Securities Co., Ace Securities Co. and Citicorp Scrimgeour Vickers International Ltd. In July, real estate speculator Mitsuhiro Kotani was arrested on suspicion of manipulating the share price of a large hotel chain, Fujita Tourist Enterprises Co.
