Goodyear to Lay Off 800: Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. cited sluggishness in the auto industry and concerns about inventory for the manufacturing plant cutbacks. The company said the layoffs were temporary, the duration depending on “the economy and market demand.” The layoffs will occur over the next several weeks. Goodyear said 270 workers would be laid off in Union City, Tenn., and 530 layoffs would occur in Valleyfield, Quebec. The layoffs will include both white- and blue-collar workers.
