P.M. BRIEFING : Taiwan Expects Yearlong Slump

TAIPEI, Taiwan —
This island nation faces a yearlong economic slump, and possibly a brief recession, but will emerge stronger than before, the minister for economic affairs said today.
Taiwan faces pressure domestically from inflation, rising wages and decreased investment, and internationally from a worldwide economic slowdown and the Persian Gulf crisis, Vincent Siew said in an interview.
