Price Freeze Blamed for Movie Theater Closures

GUADALAJARA, Mexico —
At least 600 movie theaters in Mexico have closed down in the last two years because of a freeze on ticket prices, the head of the national Chamber of Cinematography said.
Raul Chavez Guajardo said the growing popularity of videos has also hurt the theater business. He spoke in an interview published Monday by the daily newspaper Excelsior.
Most movie tickets in Mexico cost less than a dollar, and Chavez said the price of admission simply doesn’t cover the cost of operating a theater anymore.
