WORLD : Iraq Gives ‘Guests’ Mail Service
Iraq has started a mail service for letters to foreigners trapped in the country since its army invaded Kuwait last month, Baghdad Radio said today.
The radio, monitored in Nicosia, said the National Assembly wants “all families and friends of foreign guests in Iraq” to know that three post office boxes in Baghdad have been allocated for the service.
It gave the box numbers as 39090, 50300 and 50285.
The aim is to “facilitate speedy mail contacts with foreign guests in Iraq and ensure the best possible care for them,” the radio said.
Of more than 1 million foreigners, mostly Egyptians, still in Iraq, several thousand are Westerners held as human shields to deter a possible attack by U.S. and other forces massed in Saudi Arabia and the Persian Gulf.
