Silicon Systems CEO Appointed Director of AST Research

Carmelo J. Santoro has been appointed a director of AST Research Inc., the Irvine personal computer manufacturer.

He succeeds Phillip D. Matthews, who resigned after serving on the AST board of directors since May, 1987.

Santoro is the president and chief executive of Silicon Systems Inc., a Tustin manufacturer of integrated circuits.

Santoro, with more than 25 years of experience in high-technology manufacturing companies, also serves on several other boards in the electronics industry.

In May, he was named chairman of the board of Ashton-Tate Corp., a Torrance software company.
