Employment Ads Stagnant: The Conference Board research group said its index of help-wanted ads in major U.S. newspapers registered 132 in July, unchanged from June’s reading and down from 149 in July, 1989. Conference Board economist Ken Goldstein said events in the Middle East could cause businesses, including exporters, to delay some hiring.
