Kuwaiti Delicacy Goes for $2.7 Million
The wife of the ruler of the United Arab Emirates has paid $2.7 million for a plate of Kuwaiti food.
Shaika Fatima, wife of Emirates President Sheik Zayed ibn Sultan al Nuhayan, picked up the multimillion-dollar morsel at a charity cook-in Tuesday to raise money for Kuwaiti families displaced by Iraq’s Aug. 2 invasion.
The baid al qata (mashed eggs and sand grouse), presented in an aluminum foil container, are oval dumplings, a traditional Kuwaiti delicacy regarded as a good omen.
Fatima cried tears of joy at her acquisition, according to the English-language Khaleej Times.
