Seven police officers were injured Wednesday when a bomb ripped through a country police station here, police said.

The bomb exploded as police were evacuating villagers near the station at Loughgall in County Armagh after receiving a telephone warning from the Irish Republican Army.

The station was virtually destroyed and several houses were damaged.

In May 1987, British commandos shot and killed eight IRA gunmen who tried to attack the Loughgall village police station. A passer-by was also killed in the crossfire.
