SHORT TAKES : Citizen Anka Promptly Loses Car
Singer Paul Anka became a U.S. citizen and had his car towed in the process.
Anka received his certificate of citizenship Thursday with 54 other people during a federal court ceremony.
Too bad he parked in a spot reserved for the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service. A court security officer said the car was towed during the ceremony.
Anka, 49, born in Ottawa, Canada, lives in Las Vegas and joked about his desire to become an American.
“After paying a million in taxes every year I figured it was time to give me the right to do everything,” he said. “I thought it was about time. I feel part of the process.”
Anka’s wife, Anne, and his five daughters are U.S. citizens.
