EL RIO : Boy, 15, Accidentally Shot by a Friend
A 15-year-old El Rio boy underwent emergency surgery Friday after being accidentally shot by a friend who was examining a handgun, a Ventura County sheriff’s spokesman said.
Joe Adane suffered arm and chest wounds in the 11:15 a.m. shooting on Balboa Street, Senior Sheriff’s Deputy Steve Joneson said. Adane was listed in fair condition after surgery at St. John’s Regional Medical Center, a hospital spokeswoman said.
According to the Sheriff’s Department, Raymond Coronel, 15, was holding a .22-caliber pistol as he and Adane examined the weapon. The gun discharged, and a bullet struck Adane in the arm and entered his chest.
Joneson said that investigators have deemed the shooting an accident and that no charges have been filed.
