A motorcyclist who led police on a motorcycle chase early Friday morning was bitten by a La Habra police dog and apprehended after he crashed his bike and tried to hide in a clump of bushes, police said.

Michael C. Campbell, 27, of Chino was released on his own recognizance after being treated at Friendly Hills Medical Center for dog bites to his arm and leg, La Habra Police Sgt. Jerry Cline said.

Campbell was cited on charges of driving under the influence, evading a police officer and speeding, police spokeswoman Cindy Knapp said.

Knapp said that at 1:50 a.m., a police sergeant driving a squad car was preparing to turn left onto Harbor Boulevard from La Habra Boulevard when he saw a man driving a 1979 Harley-Davidson screech to a halt in the middle of the intersection.

Using a loudspeaker, the sergeant ordered the driver to pull into a nearby parking lot, Knapp said. But as the sergeant turned into the parking lot, the biker turned off his headlight and raced off westbound on La Habra.

The biker led police on a chase reaching speeds of 80 m.p.h. through several red lights and toward the hilly residential area in La Habra Heights, Cline said.
