Lawmakers Need to Act Responsibly
I was particularly caught by two articles in the Sept. 1 issue of The Times. One had to do with the puerile actions of our representatives in the state Assembly, where some of them got so caught up in their fervor either to pass a bill or to scotch it that they resorted to brawling physically to the extent that others had to intercede (“Ferguson Is Confronted by Colleague Over Letter”).
The other had to do with party politics in that one faction wanted to ensure that its party got the credit for instigating a bill and the other side wanted due credit for its member (“Pringle’s Sterile Medfly Bill Finally OKd”).
In both instances, it leaves us with the inference that our employees have forgotten why they have been selected to guide our state and see to it that the people living here are properly taken care of, protected and nurtured.
It seems to me that once they are elected, the premise should be what’s best for the state, not is it fostered by a Democrat or a Republican.
After all, it is the taxpaying public which not only pays their salary but pays for everything they decide. They should act responsibly, not like little kids.
