Mike Wallace says he’ll retire only when he dies--or, as he put it, his “toes turn up.”

“As long as you have a good time and as long as you can do the job, why retire?” asked Wallace, at 72 the oldest on “60 Minutes.”

Wallace, who with Harry Reasoner was on the staff of the CBS news program when it began 23 years ago this month, spoke at a breakfast Tuesday to publicize “Mike Wallace, Then and Now, A CBS News Special.”

The one-hour program, scheduled for Sept. 26, is a retrospective of his 40-year career in news, of which 31 years have been spent at CBS.
