Oscar-winning “Driving Miss Daisy” continues to cruise along atop the Billboard magazine chart, staying one length ahead of the Tom Cruise drama, “Born on the Fourth of July.” Second-ranked “Born” may run out of steam before it catches “Miss Daisy.” “Stella,” starring Bette Midler in a remake of an old Barbara Stanwyck tear-jerker, entered at No. 12 and has the potential to reach the middle of the Top 10. “All Dogs Go to Heaven” debuted at No. 17 on the rental chart but this cartoon feature, selling for $25, will do much better in the sales market. Other debuts: “Madhouse” (No. 18), “Lord of the Flies” (No. 19) and “Nuns on the Run” (No. 21).

* The Hitchcockian thriller “Bad Influence” starring Rob Lowe and James Spader was expected to do boffo biz at the box office, but it grossed a mild $12.3 million. In home-video market, though, it could do very well--possibly Top Five--since there’s nothing quite like it out there now. It debuted at No. 11.
