West Covina : Lakes Project Loses Hotel

City officials are seeking another major corporation to replace the Marriott Hotel, which withdrew its plans to build a 14-story hotel in a new office complex in West Covina, the city’s redevelopment manager said last week.
Redevelopment Manager Chet Yoshizaki said Interstate Hotels Corp., a franchise of Marriott, has informed him that it “will not be able to move ahead with the project.” The 320-room hotel was scheduled for completion in 1992 at The Lakes, 1000 E. Garvey Ave., south of the San Bernardino Freeway.
This is the second time a major hotel has withdrawn from the project. In 1986, Holiday Inn pulled out of its agreement to build a hotel at The Lakes.
