Daryl Gates’ Comments on Drug Users
The issue of whether to punish casual marijuana use more severely, like the issues of flag burning, the death penalty and abortion, is merely another ploy by politicians to exploit and perpetuate mass ignorance. These issues divide friends and communities; they obscure more vital issues like pollution, discrimination, homelessness and the budget and trade deficits, to name a few.
Our country has become a populace of haves and have-nots where the haves demand minimal governmental intrusion into private economic affairs while they push for maximum intrusion into the lives of less fortunate people. Now the haves use one hand to point a finger at casual drug users while the other obsessively clutches a gin and tonic!
Pious hypocrisy; self-righteous ignorance: The damn politicians have driven our entire country to pot!
