Monrovia : Group Gets Option on Land
The City Council agreed Tuesday to give the Trust for Public Land, a nonprofit group, the option to buy 1,200 acres of city land in Sawpit Canyon.
Under the agreement, Trust for Public Land will have two years to decide whether to buy the hillside property for $648,000, or about $540 an acre. The trust, based in San Francisco, buys property and transfers it to such agencies as the U.S. Forest Service for permanent preservation as open space or for recreational use, City Atty. Richard J. Morillo said.
Monrovia sold 635 acres of land in the foothills above Duarte to the same group in 1987 for $320,000.
