Souter Nomination Opposed by NAACP
Reuters
WASHINGTON —
The NAACP said in a statement released Saturday that it would oppose the nomination of David H. Souter to the U.S. Supreme Court.
The 500,000-member National Assn. for the Advancement of Colored People said that Souter’s recent testimony before the Senate Judiciary Committee failed to clear up concerns about his position on affirmative action and other civil rights issues.
The committee has wrapped up five days of hearings on Souter and is expected to vote on the nomination this week.
