Machine Tool Orders Up: American-made machine tool orders jumped 23% in August to $288.05 million, the Assn. for Manufacturing Technology said. In its monthly report, the McLean, Va.-based trade group said machine tool shipments rose 3.8% in August to $242.30 million. It was the fifth consecutive month in which machine tools orders were above 1989’s. The report is used to gauge capital spending by manufacturers.
