USAir said today it has signed a letter of intent to enter into a marketing agreement with Air France to coordinate passenger ticketing and flight scheduling and share airport facilities in Paris.

USAir, which recently scrapped expansion plans and dismissed hundreds of workers to cut losses, said the agreement is the first of its kind with Air France and a major U.S. airline.

The pact allows for the two airlines to purchase blocks of seats on some of each other’s transatlantic flights for resale to the public. USAir has also scheduled new service between Philadelphia and Paris in 1991.
