Oxnard Issue Should City Change Its...

I will admit that when I came here from Malibu in 1969, the transition was very difficult. I mean, Oxnard? Whoever thought of naming a city Oxnard? But now, personally, I have no problem with it and I’ll never have a problem with it. I’ve grown to like it and I take strong opposition to changing the name. I find myself defending it more and more. I get very defensive when someone comes into my office to buy real estate and shoves down my throat, “Why do you live here in a city named Oxnard?” I feel insulted when someone says the name sounds horrible. I have been in the real estate business for 20 years and I find that the name Oxnard does not deter people from moving here. Our population has grown tremendously. People who come into my office who don’t like the name ask me, “Why don’t they change it to Channel Islands?” But I haven’t had anyone not buy a property because of the name of the city. I’d vote to keep the name. Why spoil a good thing?
