Biogen Gets European Patent: The Cambridge, Mass.-biotechnology company said it was awarded the patent for its recombinant production of beta interferon. Biogen has licensed Asta Pharma AG of West Germany for the clinical development and commercialization of recombinant beta interferon in certain countries in Western Europe, and retains co-marketing rights. Beta interferon is being tested for use in treating cancers, hepatitis C and brain tumors, among other illnesses.
