Lofton on Moral Insanity

Share

Lofton rails against the insanity of all those who disagree with him. He makes no attempt to understand differing viewpoints, nor does he try to respond to the points of contention between his beliefs and those of others. He egotistically assumes, without offering any justification, that he is absolutely right and that all others, blind to the obvious rightness of his position, must be mad.

His outrage is based on his belief that abortion is murder. He presents no arguments for this belief, but over the years the arguments presented by others seem to consist of little more than a few rhetorical devices, such as calling fetuses “pre-born children,” accompanied by much breast-beating and gnashing of teeth.

Lofton is a Christian. I presume that his stand on abortion is rooted in his religious beliefs. But the Bible does not consider abortion to be a crime.

The U.S. Supreme Court, a former President’s daughter, an editor of a respected opinion magazine--Lofton condemns them all as morally insane. But then, any other conclusion might force Lofton to relinquish some of his precious outrage. It might even lead to that most horrible of fates for the dogmatic, the loss of certainty.
