The $104,500 Las Madrinas Handicap for fillies and mares highlights Friday’s action at the L.A. County Fair in Pomona.

Jockeys Gary Stevens and Robbie Davis each make their first appearances of the Fairplex meet in the Las Madrinas, but it is unlikely either will be aboard the favorite.

A Wild Ride, trained by D. Wayne Lukas, and Sassy Slew, which has finished third or better in nine of 11 outings this year, figure to vie for the favorite’s mantle in the 1 1/16th-mile race.

A Wild Ride is one of just three sophomores in the Las Madrinas lineup. Formerly devoid of early speed, she has been closer to the pace in her last two races, a trait that should work in her favor around the cozy Fairplex oval.

A 5-year-old, Sassy Slew has shown speed in most of her races. She is the high weight at 116 pounds and will be ridden by Julio Garcia.

In post position order, the field is: A Wild Ride, ridden by Alex Solis, 13 pounds; Oh Sweet Thing, Stevens, 113; La Tropicana, Davis, 109; Past Remembered, David Flores, 114; Sonilla, Corey Black, 113; Regal Fawn, Omar Berrio, 110; Grandiflora, Pablo Castillo, 108; Sassy Slew; Something Comfy, Corey Nakatani, 109, and Dancinginthepark, Martin Pedroza, 112.
