Malibu : Yacht Club Loses Its Lease

The Malibu Yacht Club, which claims to be the oldest social organization in Malibu, is about to lose its home.

The 100-member club, founded in 1948, has been told it must vacate its headquarters at the western end of Zuma Beach on Sunday, when its lease expires, said Michael Klubock, the club’s commodore.

Los Angeles County officials last month rejected the club’s bid to lease some county-owned property at Zuma Beach. Officials of the Department of Beaches and Harbors said it would be inappropriate to lease public property for semi-private use.

Klubock said the club, which is open to the public, hopes to buy or lease some beachfront property. “Right now, we’re just hoping that there’s an angel out there who might come to our aid,” he said.
