Man Gets Life in Prison for Murder of Composer

A man was sentenced this week to life in prison without parole for stabbing to death an award-winning television music composer in the victim’s Hollywood Hills home.

Juanito Purugganan, 29, was convicted last month of one count each of first-degree murder, robbery and burglary in the killing of Doug Timm, 29, who had won awards for the themes of such television series as “Simon and Simon” and “Dolphin Cove.” He was also convicted of the special circumstance allegations of murder during a robbery and a burglary.

Timm was killed while having sex with Purugganan’s prostitute-wife, Michelle, 20, in the victim’s home in July, 1989. Timm had met the Purugganans on the Sunset Strip and took the couple back to his residence to have sex with the woman, prosecutors said.
