Joseph Barrett DeCunzo; Retired Inventory Controller

Joseph Barrett DeCunzo, a retired inventory controller, has died in Pasadena. He was 57.

A longtime resident of Panorama City, DeCunzo died Monday of complications of Alzheimer’s disease, said his wife, Toni DeCunzo.

Born Jan. 25, 1933, in New York, DeCunzo came to California as a teen-ager and later graduated from Cal State Northridge. He was hired by Los Angeles County in 1968 and worked for the county until he retired in 1988 as an inventory controller in the Department of Public Works.

DeCunzo was a longtime member of St. Genevieve’s Catholic Church in Panorama City. He also was an officer with the Knights of Columbus Council No. 3148 in Van Nuys and had been a Cub Scoutmaster in Panorama City and a member of the parents’ board of Notre Dame High School in Sherman Oaks.

He is survived by his wife of 29 years; sons Brian DeCunzo of Panorama City, Michael DeCunzo of Reseda, John DeCunzo of Pacoima, Joseph DeCunzo of Chula Vista, Calif., and Paul DeCunzo of Mountain View, Calif.; sister, Kay Olsen of Thousand Oaks; and five grandchildren.

Visitation is planned from 3 to 6 p.m. today at Pierce Brothers Meyer-Mitchell Mortuary, 5940 Van Nuys Blvd. in Van Nuys, which is handling the arrangements. A funeral Mass is scheduled to be celebrated at 8 p.m. tonight at St. Genevieve’s Catholic Church, 14061 Roscoe Blvd. in Panorama City. A graveside service is scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday at San Fernando Mission Cemetery, 11160 Stranwood Ave. in Mission Hills. Donations can be made in DeCunzo’s name to the Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Disorders Assn. in Los Angeles.
