ORANGE : Children’s Hospital Can Build Heliport

Share

Children’s Hospital of Orange County has been given the green light to build a heliport atop its new seven-story building.

The landing pad, approved by the Orange City Council this week, will top a building now under construction on the west side of Pepper Street between Stewart Drive and La Veta Aveue The heliport, which will be used for emergency cases only, will handle an estimated 12 flights per month.

Some residents of the area expressed concern that helicopters flying over residential neighborhoods and nearby West Orange Elementary School will create excessive noise and be a potential safety hazard.

But a study by Acoustical Analysis Associates Inc. of Canoga Park showed that “little or no adverse noise impact” is expected from the helicopter flights.

City planner John Godlewski told the council that the Federal Aviation Administration will finalize the flight paths, with the preferred route following the Garden Grove Freeway.
