Oil’s Role in Persian Gulf Crisis

Share

The Pentagon’s dream of securing permanent military bases in Saudi Arabia is coming true. The Administration let it slip that U.S. forces will remain in the region long after the current conflict is over.

The massive buildup in Saudi Arabia is to protect “our oil.” The plan is for Americans to continue their gluttony of consuming this precious resource as fast as possible. In about 50 years, when all the oil and profits are gone, the region can be turned back to the Arabs.

President Bush attempts to frame this crisis in terms of creating a “new world order” based on international law and respect for the United Nations. We desperately need it! However, it was the Reagan/Bush team that denigrated the U.N. for the past decade.

The message from the “line in the sand” is thus: The world is to understand that the U.S. is now the only “superpower,” and the rule of international law is that the U.S. does the ruling.
