American Honda Sues Ohio Firm Over Trademark: American Honda Motor Co. in Gardena filed suit against Blue Coral, alleging that the Ohio-based firm is illegally using the Honda trademark to sell automobile power steering fluid. In the federal suit, Honda says the alleged infringement misleads consumers into believing that Blue Coral’s products are made by Honda, which also makes power steering fluid. The suit asserts that “the defendant’s product is inferior to the genuine Honda” product and seeks to stop Blue Coral, which has an office in Los Angeles, from using the trademark. The suit also seeks profits from products sold by Blue Coral under the trademark, plus treble damages. (Court Case No. 90-5240. Filed Sept. 27, 1990).
