AMD Introduces New Chips: A new breed of microprocessors developed by Advanced Micro Devices Corp. combines on a single piece of silicon many components needed for an IBM-compatible personal computer. The so-called semi-computers can match the function of entire circuit boards containing anywhere from a handful of chips to 175 separate integrated circuits. The technology is expected to spawn a new generation of smaller and less expensive personal computers.
