Walnut : New Landscape Pact Signed

The City Council has voted unanimously to terminate its contract with Hacienda Landscape Inc., after spending more than a year trying to force the company to improve its service record.

The termination, approved by the council last week, was effective Sunday. The city’s $1,750-a-month landscape contract, through next June 30, has been awarded to Creative Landscaping Inc.

City officials said Hacienda had failed to respond to several requests for irrigation repairs and landscape maintenance. Company officials did not return phone calls seeking comment.

Hacienda also had been the subject of numerous complaints from residents living near its Carrey Road facility. They complained that the debris-strewn grounds were a public health risk and that employees would drink beer and urinate in public.
