“We’re right in the heart of military family housing. I think somewhere between 80% and 90% are dependents of military families. Even if they aren’t in the Persian Gulf, the possibility exists that they will be.

We have a class that meets every day called “advisory.” Our counseling staff has put together a series of activities (discussing) either Mom or Dad being in the Persian Gulf. I think that every chance the kids get to talk about their feelings, the better off they are.

In our social studies classes, a good many of them are participating in the CNN educational programs. Almost all of our social studies teachers have maps (in the classrooms.) The (children) know where the ships are.

Most of the kids are dealing with it pretty well. They’re pretty used to (their parents being deployed). The difference is that this time (the parents) are going into a situation where people can be shooting at them.
