Seed Companies to Merge: Garst Seed of Coon Rapids, Iowa, said its purchase of Edward J. Funk & Sons, a subsidiary of British Petroleum PLC, will strengthen its position as the nation’s third-largest corn seed producer. Ted Crosbie was named president and chief executive of the combined companies. Garst is a subsidiary of ICI of London; Funk sells Super Crost brand seeds.
