Richard S. Dembsey; Retired Warehouse Manager

Richard S. Dembsey, a retired warehouse manager, has died in Glendale. He was 78.

A longtime resident of Glendale, Dembsey died Monday of heart failure and cancer, said his wife, Christine Dembsey.

Born July 31, 1912, in Philadelphia, he came to California in 1940 and worked at a Lockheed Corp. plant in Glendale during World War II. He worked for Fischback & Moore Inc. in North Hollywood for 28 years as an electrical materials warehouse manager until his retirement in 1974. From 1955 to 1960, he filled in as a Cub Scout den mother and served as a scoutmaster in Glendale.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years; a daughter, Stephanie Herkelrath of Lynnwood, Wash.; a sister, Pat Keller of Glendale; and a granddaughter.

A funeral is planned for 2 p.m. Saturday, with burial to follow at the chapel at Glen Haven Memorial Park, 13017 N. Lopez Canyon Road in San Fernando, which is handling the arrangements. Donations can be made in Dembsey’s name to the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Assn.
