Leland J. Holland; One of Iranian Hostages
Leland J. Holland, 63, one of 52 Americans taken hostage at the U.S. Embassy in Tehran and held for 444 days by the Iranian government. Military attache to the embassy, Holland commanded the U.S. Army’s Vint Hill Station in Warrenton, Va., after his release by Iran on Jan. 20, 1981. The Vietnam veteran retired as a colonel in 1986. On Tuesday in Washington of prostate cancer.
