Nebraska’s Governor Tells of Death Threat
Gov. Kay Orr said today that her life has been threatened and that she will not campaign in a county divided by plans to build a low-level radioactive waste facility.
The threat came within the last six months, and she knows who made it, Orr said at a news conference this morning. But she declined to disclose the name.
The Nebraska State Patrol is investigating, she said.
Sparsely populated Boyd County has been in turmoil since US Ecology, a company developing a low-level radioactive waste depository for five states, said it wants to build the facility there.
Doug Parrott, a spokesman for the Orr campaign, said the state continues to review US Ecology’s application for a permit to develop the site near near the South Dakota border.
