Assigning Blame on Budget Mess
Your editorial “The Anatomy of a Debacle” (Oct. 6) really infuriated me! When, finally, House members listened to their constituents and voted down the proposed budget bill, you blame it all on the coming elections! They did what they are there for--to represent the interests of the people.
As for President Bush, his foolish “read-my-lips”-campaign stand was meant only for the highest-level incomes. To say that he has given in to higher taxes applies only to the people who can least afford them--those on Social Security and Medicare.
President Bush is holding Congress hostage. He can’t blame them for the mess we are in when the income tax inequities exist as they do. Let them pass a bill that puts more burden where it belongs--on the people at the top of the income ladder.
