I guess it was an understandable mistake. I saw the title “Working Class” (by Barbara Foley) over the Aug. 26 fashion article, and I leaped to the conclusion that the clothes modeled by “five successful Southern California Women” would be within the budget of the average working woman. A cursory tallying up of the cost of the various components of the ensemble worn by Rose Matsui Ochi, however, revealed a total price tag of $2,595, with the suit and accessories sported by Joan Goverman coming to a tidy $3,090, and none of the other three “working class” outfits making it in at under $1,000. I then comprehended that the operative word was class and not working and that the majority of us working stiffs will achieve that kind of class only in our dreams.
