GTE Corp.: The telephone and telecommunications conglomerate reported third-quarter net income of $409 million, up 11% from a year ago. Revenue totaled $4.6 billion, a gain of 5%. The Stamford, Conn.-based firm attributed the results to volume growth in all of its businesses and cost savings.
