RISK WIZARD: Nobel Prize winner William Sharpe (D1), who refined his pioneering formula for evaluating investment risks while at UC Irvine, is one of the rare economists whose theory became practice on Wall Street, says a former colleague. . . . “He just put together the whole world of risk and return in a way that is so elegant, and it influences the way we actually invest, the way we look at risk,” UCI economics professor Sheen Kassouf says. “It actually changed the way Wall Street works. You can’t say that about many economists.” . . . Sharpe spent three years here, then moved to Stanford in 1971.
