United Technologies Corp.: The Hartford, Conn.-based firm reported a 22% increase in its third-quarter earnings to $239.8 million on revenue of $5.3 billion, up 10% from the year-ago period. The company cited a one-time, pretax gain of $46.5 million from the sale of its majority interest in two Italian automotive firms. Without that gain, earnings would have increased 7.5%. UTC provides high-technology products for the aerospace, building and automotive industries, including Pratt & Whitney aircraft engines and Otis elevators.
