Test of Male Contraceptive Shows Promise

Weekly injections of the hormone testosterone appear highly effective as a male contraceptive and could offer men the first easily reversible, reliable form of birth control, researchers reported today.

In the first study of its kind, the hormone injections worked better than birth control pills used by women.

While weekly injections are not considered practical, the study suggests variations of the approach, such as shots given every three or four months, could be effective.
