Rain Falls Inside U.S. Capitol Dome
Reuters
WASHINGTON —
Congress, which is known for leaking information, had a real leak Thursday as rain fell inside the U.S. Capitol dome, making large puddles in the building’s rotunda 98 feet below.
Statues of George Washington, Abraham Lincoln and other famous Americans were covered with plastic to protect them from the rain.
George White, the architect for the Capitol, said the dome, which was completed in 1863, has hundreds of cracks. He said his staff would close the leaks and try to find a long-term solution.
