JOLIET, Ill. — A 25-year-old Mississippi man was charged with murder Friday after a gang-related shooting on the city’s East Side in which two men were killed and three other people injured, two critically.
Police watch commander Phil Ragusa said Michael Blackwell of Hattiesburg, Miss., was charged with two counts of murder after his arrest Thursday night.
“There was a party going on at a residence,” Ragusa said. “Two rival gang members lived there, one upstairs, one downstairs. They had been on talking terms in the past but apparently something occurred.”
Ragusa said the shooting occurred when gang members from the downstairs residence went upstairs to confront their rivals.
