World IN BRIEF : LIBERIA : Starving Evacuees Reach Sierra Leone

Thousands of starving evacuees from war-torn Liberia scrambled to swap clothes and household goods for food and water when they docked at Freetown in Sierra Leone. Survivors said about 25 people died of hunger or sickness aboard a Nigerian naval vessel on the tedious voyage from the Liberian capital, Monrovia, to Freetown. Military sources said bodies of 10 Guinean soldiers, killed fighting rebel forces, were on the ship.
