Agents seized more than 200 pounds of marijuana and arrested two men near the border checkpoint, the Border Patrol reported Tuesday.

Dagoberto Meza-Hernandez, 24, of Tijuana, and Bernardo Vasquez-Guvioto, 28, of Sinaloa, Mexico, were booked into the Metropolitan Correctional Center on drug possession charges, said a Border Patrol spokesman, adding that both men were in the United States illegally.

Agents arrested the two at about 5:30 p.m. Monday as they allegedly were loading 218 pounds of marijuana into a 1984 Ford Bronco on Monument Road, about half a mile north of the U.S.-Mexican border, the spokesman said. The marijuana was packaged in three duffel bags and two backpacks and agents believe the drugs were carried across the border on foot and were going to be driven north in the Bronco, the spokesman said.
