Clipboard : Poison Calls
The UC Irvine Regional Poison Center regularly logs more than 1,000 calls per month from people who believe they have (or actually have) ingested a poison. In 1989 for example, the center received 23,109 calls-15,309, or two-thirds, of which were from people worried about an exposure to some type of poison. And of the 15,309 calls, 10,730 (70%) were from children under age 6. Here’s a look at the trend in calls during 1989 from those worried about an exposure to a poison: Sept.: 1,518 Dec.: 1,097 Source: UC Irvine Regional Poison Center / UCI Medical Center
